Tied by Kevin Meredith for the Emerger Swap

Hook: Dry Fly #12-#18
Thread: Cream/Tan 6/0
Body: Cream/Tan Dubbing
Ribbing:Olive colored wire
Wing:Deer Hair
Tail:Squirrel Tail

Tying Instructions:
First attach the thread to the hook. Now you will want to get the wing of deer hair on. Use a hair stacker and stack the tips of the deer hair evenly. Trim them down so they are a little longer than the hook shank. Now attach them to the hook, just behind the eye and laid out so they are laying over the eye. When you tighten the thread around them they should flare up a little. Make sure they flare up and are sticking forward slightly from vertical. Now wrap your thread to the back of the hook and attach a few strands of squirrel tail to make up the tail of the fly. Now attach your ribbing material, which can be olive colored wire or you can use olive thread as a substitute. Now dub the body forward with some tan or cream colored dubbing material. After dubbing to the base of the wings, wrap your ribbing material forward. Make sure to space the ribbing material out a little. Tie down the ribbing material and tie off your thread.

Fly Information:
This is a classic emerger pattern and is to be used when the fish aren't taking the dry fly, but are sipping on the flies that are just beneath the surface. When you use it, just put some floatant on the deer hair and the tippet so the rest of the fly sits just below the surface. It is easier to fish this fly in tandem with a larger dry fly that can be used as an indicator. There are many different variations on this emerger pattern. The Pale Morning Dun is a very common insect to see on the stream and there have been many attempts of different people to come up with the perfect imitation. You can also change the colors of the dubbing material for this particular fly.
