Hook: Nymph #16-#20
Thread: White 6/0 or 8/0
Tail: Pearl Flashabou
Rib: Pearl Flashabou
Eyes: Monofilament Fishing Line
Wingcase: Clear Plastic
Abdomen: White Fur/White Ostrich Herl
Body: White Fur/White Ostrich Herl

Tying Instructions:
First Tie on some small white thread. These flies are tied in "backwards". Meaning the tail is at the eye of the hook. Next you will want to tie in a piece of monofilament perpendicular to the hook shank. The monofilament should be about half the length of the hook shank and both ends should be melted with a lighter. This is to make the ends a little bulkier to get the effect of eyes. Tie down the monofilament using figure eights wraps. You will want to color the monofilament red (or black) with a permanent marker. After this tie in the tail using two strips of pearl flash make a forked tail. Then wrap your thread to the bend of the hook and tie in a small piece of clear plastic, using a ziplock bag is perfect. This piece should only be big enough to cover the top of the fly. Tie it in almost like you would a tail on a normal fly. Then dub the abdomen around the eyes using your white dubbing to about a third of the way up the hook. Then grab the clear plastic and fold if over the top of the dubbing and eyes. Now tie in a stand of pearl flashabou and dub the body to the eye of the hook. Wrap the ribbing material (flashabou) to the eye and tie off.

Fly Information:
There are many versions of this fly and this is my own. This fly is a very special fly for certain rivers. A few that come to mind are the Frying Pan, Taylors Fork, and Blue river in Colorado. This fly is used for tailwaters that have a lake above them that are full of these shrimp. When the shrimp come through the dam, the fish then gorge on them and get enormous. Any time your fishing somewhere with an abundance of mysis shrimp the fish will be some real heavyweights. Not all the shrimp are actually this white color. But the white ones are the first ones the fish eat. One thing to be aware of is some rivers the mysis shrimp have red eyes and others they have black eyes. The fish seem to key off of this color so be aware of what color the mysis shrimp are in your particular river.
