Tied by Bob Voelker for the Emerger Swap

Hook: Dry Fly #10-#18
Thread: Brown 6/0
Body: Peacock
Shuck: Tan Antron Yarn
Wing: Deer Hair
Shellback: Closed Cell Foam

Tying Instructions:
First tie on your thread. First the antron yarn tail. Cut off a piece about 1.5 times as long as the hook shank and tie it down. Now attach 2 or 3 strands pf peacock herl. Attach them at the rear of the hook. Don't wrap them forward yet and attach a piece of closed cell foam in the same spot as the peacock herl. The foam should stick forward toward the eye of the hook and at least that far. Now wrap the peacock herl forward, making sure not to wrap it over the top of the foam. Wrap the peacock herl forward about 2/3 the way up the hook shank and tie it off. Now fold the foam over the top of the hook shank and over the peacock herl and tie it down at the same spot. Cut off the excess foam. Now to tie on the wing cut off a piece of deer hair that is about twice as long as the hook shank and attach it just behind the eye. You want to tie it down so that it flares up at about a 45 degree angle. Make sure to leave a small portion of the hair to the front of where you tie it down to create the effect of a head. Now tie off your thread for the finished fly.

Fly Information:
First of all when you fish this fly, make sure to only put floatant on the wing of the fly. You want the rest to be in the surface film or just below it. The antron yarn is to imitate the schuck of the fly. Many times the fish key on flies on the water that still have the schuck attached because these flies can not fly off yet. They are on top of the water and are still drying out their wings and trying to get out of the schuck. They are basically helpless and the fish know it.
