Hook: Shrimp/Caddis #14-#22
Thread: Black 8/0
Body: Copper/Brass Wire
Wingcase: Antron (Olive, Grey, Brown, Black)
Head: Copper/Brass Beadhead (Optional)

Tying Instructions:
To start this fly slip on a beadhead if you are going to use on. Then tie on your thread and coat the entire hook with a layer of thread. This keeps the copper wire in place. Now tie down your copper wire and wrap the thread up just past 2/3 the way up the hook. Then wrap your copper wire up to the same point as your thread and tie down the copper wire. Make sure you do many wraps of thread when tying down the copper wire because it is easy for the wire to come off. Now do the wingcase by taking a small pinch of antron and twisting it onto your thread. Then wrap the thread with the antron on it around the hook, just behind the beadhead. After finishing the wingcase tie off your thread for the finished fly.

Fly Information:
I have used this fly a lot in a spring creek I have fished in southwest Montana. This fly can work all year round but it is most effective in the early spring. Fish it dead drifted with or without an indicator. In a deeper river or creek you may need to add some weight to the line to get it down deep enough but the copper wire should be enough in a spring creek. I also want to mention that sometimes this fly is tied without a wingcase when there is a beadhead on the hook. This fly is also routinely called Copper John.
